Psst. Wanna see a Red-throated Pipit? We've got special access to take you behind the gates where the birds have been spotted.
Directions to this location will be released to those who sign up.
What's all the fuss about? Red-throated Pipits nest in Siberia and migrate to SE Asia for the winter. In rare cases genetic mutations result in a mirror-image migration, where their internal compass flips East and West. A small number of birds are seen annually during fall migration along the pacific coast as they move down to Baja following this mirrored migration pathway. In very rare cases a bird will over winter on school fields in San Diego.
Note: the bird is on school property and we must respect the students who attend. We have set up this field trip during a time that is acceptable to the school, and will be able to go onto the school grounds. Should you have an interest in going to look for the bird on your own, please do not trespass on the school grounds, or set up your optics to look into the school yard while school is in session or students are using the fields.
