I learned to bird by ear as I helped the bird walk leaders with the monthly check-in at the San Diego Botanic Garden. They always shared the e-bird list with me so I could see the birds I was hearing. I was almost legally blind, and it wasn't until after having my lenses replaced that I could the sound to a bird. My spark bird was the Spotted Towhee. I lead and volunteer at the San Diego Bird Alliance, volunteer at the USO (Eaglets for children of deployed service members and events), and I also volunteer for the California Rare Fruit Growers North San Diego County where the mission is to educate our community on how to grow fruit that you normally wouldn't think of.
